About the book

book cover

Denying History takes a bold and in-depth look at those who say the Holocaust never happened and explores the motivations behind such claims. While most commentators have dismissed the Holocaust deniers as antisemitic neo-Nazi thugs who do not deserve a response, historians Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman have immersed themselves in the minds and culture of these Holocaust “revisionists.” They have conducted personal interviews with the deniers, read their literature, monitored their Web sites, attended their conferences, engaged them in debate, and even traveled around Europe to conduct research at the Nazi extermination camps. Uncovering a complex social movement, the authors go much deeper than ever before in not only trying to understand the motives of the Holocaust deniers, but also refuting their points one by one. In the process, they show how we can be certain that the Holocaust happened and, for that matter, how we can confirm any historical event.

I do not believe any of the religions. I think they are all untruthful, however that does not mean that there is no god – it is true that we don’t have any evidence he exists but atheists don’t have any evidence that he doesn’t exist either.

  2. Ian Thal Says:

I have been writing a play about how a university community is affected when a Holocaust denial advertisement is published in a student newspaper. This book is one of a handful that I have found to be essential for my research.

  3. Neil McCabe Says:

To Jared. Atheists (scientists) have plenty of evidence for the non existence of God. God fails every test. Please read ‘God-the failed hypothesis’ by Victor J Stenger. A short and easy read but unbelievably valuable towards understanding. The burden of proof today is on the believers, not the scientists. If you claim sommething is real, you have to prove it. Personal testimonies are not proof. Regards.

  4. Andrew Davidson Says:

The problem today, or should I say has always been, that we are afraid to question the claims of religion. People trust that they will find comfort and answers within religion, and forget to have “faith” in themselves.

Even if Jesus was who christianity claims he was, can believers honestly say that he intended that the religion was to be formed to what it is today?
Hardly any female prests, there will never be a (coloured or not) female pope, and a constant hate towards homosexsuals?..

To many questions to be taken serioulsy.

  5. L. A. Rollins Says:

For a scathing critique of pseudoskeptic Michael Shermer’s dishonesty and hypocrisy in Denying History, see the review by L. A. Rollins, “Deifying Dogma,” in his new book, The Myth of Natural Rights and Other Essays, published by Nine-Banded Books, available for $13.

  6. L. A. Rollins Says:

Here is a quotation from the abovementioned review of “Denying History”:
“Shermer and Grobman likwise promise a thorough refutation of the revisionists, er, I mean, ‘deniers.’
so how does this dynamic duo accomplish such an amazing feat of intellectual heroism? First and foreost, they have ‘thooughly refuted’ the revisionists by ignoring most of what revisionists have written.”

I think the nazi germany killed many jews but the number was not 6 million…It was exagerrated for political reasons….and it was not only jews who were killed it was anybody who were against the nazi regime…but people think it was only jews…

  8. Speak the Truth Says:

L.A Rollins is a drunk Fool it is his nature(insanity)to try and peddle his own garbage when no one is buying the B.S.
Do you think Ted Kaczynski knew he was crazy, seems they are very similar mentally except for a degree in mathematics vs. philosophy. If I had to pick a reason for their words & actions I would be going with insanity, thats my best guess.

  9. Michiel Says:

I just re-read Denying History. When I bought DH I felt in a funny way ashamed; buying a book “defending” a historical fact. The arguments presented in DH are not new; the power of the book is the very logical and methodical way the arguments are presented.
The second “power” is that the “deniers” are treated in a very dignified way.

  10. Abba Says:

It seems a lot of you miss the point here. Denying this event is not about denying historical facts if it really happened this way or another (whether the 6 million is correct or just fabricated). Let`s say it happened that way. What a lot are denying is that monstrous and provocative campaign what certain interests group created and have been doing for more than 6 decades and which kills all the sympathies and can turn around easily. Until these groups are in power there can not be any normal discussion about this topic. Like it or not without Holocaust there would never be modern Israel.

  11. steve Says:

If the Bible is a bunch of bias — why are this people settled in Israel —if there is no evidence of the exodus or the jews in Egypt????????

  12. Michael C. Says:

I would ask Abba if, by his last statement, that he feels the end justifies the means? Without the Nazi holocaust, those millions of lives would have been spared. If that means Jews weren’t to flood the already occupied lands of Palestine and create a Jewish homestate, displacing hundred of thousands of Arab non-Jews, well, I’m okay with that too!
